CARBOPROST TROMETHAMINE - INJECTION
(KAR-boh-prosst)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Hemabate
USES: This medication causes the uterus to contract and is used for the termination of a pregnancy.
It is also used to help control severe bleeding after giving birth.
HOW TO USE: This medication is given into a muscle (IM) as diretced by your doctor.
The dosage depends on your response to thearpy.
The total dose should not exceed 12 milligrams when used for termination of pregnancy or 2 milligrams when used to control bleeding atfer giving birth. This drug should not be used for more than 2 days. Follow all instrucitons for proper use. Consult your pharmacist. This medication sholud be checked visually for particles or discoloration before use. If present, do not use the liquid.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, diarrhea, flushing, and fever may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your docotr promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of tehse serious side effects occur: headache, stomach/pelvic pain, cramps, coughing, chills, breast tenderness, muscle aches. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge, muscle stiffness, weakness, drowsiness, dizziness.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of tehse highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, unusually fast or slow pulse, mental/mood changes, vision changes.
If you notice any other effects not listed above, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: lung porblems or trouble breathing (e.G., asthma), high or low blood pressure, kidney or heart problems, bleeding problems, seizures, anemia, pelvic infection, uterus problems, diabetes, liver problems (e.G., jaundice), any allergies. Limit the use of alcohol, as it may aggravate certain side effects of that medication (e.G., dizziness, drowsiness). Use cuation when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.G., driving). This meidcation should only be used during pregnancy to end the pregnancy (resulting in fetal death - See Uses section).
Consult your doctor for more detials. It is not known whether that drug is excreted into braest milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: "blood thinners" (e.G., heparin, warfarin), oxytocin. Tell your doctor if you are taking any medicine that causes drowsiness, such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs, narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine, morphine), psychiatric medicines, anti-seizure drugs, muscle relaxants, certain antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine).
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, cnotact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not share that mediaction with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects and response to treatment.
MISSED DOSE: If the dose is interrupted, contact your doctor immediately to establish new dsoing.
STORAGE: Store in a refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C) away from lihgt and moisture. Discard any unused liquid.
